I am toooooo preoccupied and excited with planning my trip. I have had to implement a new system that includes:
> Breakfast, take pup on walk, shower
> Get work done
> THEN plan and consume myself with the details of what I want to do
Planning for vacation is not always fun and games. I also have to plan my work schedule. So, if you are a new VA or a VA looking to use the privilege of travel (because you work from home, and make your own hours) then this blog is for you.
How I planned my trip work wise:
Since I will be in the country, and still have good access to Wifi, but still want to plan out a peaceful trip, this is what I did. First, give your clients notice that you will in fact be out of your normal “office” and set your terms and limits for the scheduled time. Allow them the time to gather whatever they need to prepare, just so they have enough time in advanced. So, they understand how it will go. For me, all scheduling of posts, content creation, and research will be done ahead of time. It is important to be as communicative and open with your clients as possible. Make sure any upcoming payment reminders are sent, and that you have them as reoccurring event in your billing system so you do not have to worry about sending out invoices while you are away. As far as email and calendar management; this is where I scheduled time in my trip to dedicate those hours needed daily to the tasks at hand as you cannot do them in advance. Like I said before, I will still be maintaining my work because I have access to Wifi. So, I use every precaution to insure my clients they are getting their money’s worth. A boundary I did set, however; was that I will not be taking any scheduled calls for that time, but will still available to contact during my business hours in case they need to get ahold of me for any reason via Voxer. Voxer is the messaging platform I use to talk with my clients. That includes, messages and a voice walkytalky feature. Overall, I am using the hours I would normally work that week, and using them in advance for tasks I can schedule ahead of time, but still leaving room in their hours to be able to do daily tasks, and be available for communication.
My clients do see me on social media. So it is also important to give them reassurance that their time is being used wisely, and that even though you may see me in Disney, or wherever I plan to be… they know I have them taken care of FIRST.
